Bloody Bug
It's official name is Boisea Trivittata - and although it carries the Boise namesake, we call them box elder bugs. This is the first time I've seen them in my backyard, so the maple tree must be playing host. Supposedly, they're not a danger to the tree, and don't squish them - they're bloody messy.

Peregrine Falcon Nesting Box
See that little box on the ledge? That's where our city's resident peregrine falcons have laid their eggs. There's a live camera in the box, and the eggs will be hatching any day now. See it all close-up by clicking here. Update: Two chicks hatched today.

Boise Airport Birds
A couple of the resident house sparrows inside the Boise Airport. Airport folks say the birds sneak in and live a luxurious life of snacking on food crumbs, enjoying even temperatures, and obviously, drinking fresh water. The Boise Airport isn't the only attractive home for sparrows - we saw them at Phoenix Sky Harbor when we were there last month. (thanks to our friend Ben Bullock for sharing this photo)
