A great horned owl, above, and a barn owl, below. These birds were on display at Bald Eagle Day last weekend at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Both birds are unable to fly because of injuries. Notice the great horned's right wing: a big chunk is missing. The rehab expert holding the barn owl says it was found at the side of the road.
The "Sin City" burger with everything on it, including a fried egg. And that's an egg bun, which is extra soft. I almost ate the whole thing. It was good, and while I rarely eat burgers, I'm looking forward to another one of these.

A vintage sign in downtown Boise...and this one is connected to a business that's still going strong after more than 50 years. When you see daredevils cleaning high-rise windows in town, it's a safe bet the work is being done by these folks.
Utility boxes throughout downtown have been spiffed up like this as part of a street art project. I like this one because I'm partial to owls and orange-y reds.
Peace, love and do-it-yourself paint job. I've seen similar bright decor on VW vans, but this is the first time I've seen such a display on a Chrysler minivan.
That's a lot of empty bottles, and mostly wine. No, not my party, although I know there were a lot of fun football events yesterday. These are likely headed to recycling. Glass is not picked up through curb-side recycling, although there are some drop sites in the area.
A half of a day of fog Saturday. I was hoping to see bald eagles during a quick walk along the river. No eagles, but I did see common mergansers, a Northern flicker and a song sparrow. There used to be several "over 19" stores on Chinden Boulevard. I think this is the only one, now. I have friends who own Valley Tools next door. They refer to it as "The Bookstore."

This is the historic St. Paul Baptist Church building, now home to the Idaho Black History Museum in Julia Davis Park. The IBHM is sponsoring an MLK, Jr. event at the Capitol today.

I'm sure this is a shady spot on a hot summer day. I've noticed this week that a lot of people are talking about being tired of winter. It did start early for us this season.
A glimpse inside a tiny and packed space in the catacombs under a theater in Downtown Boise. Zoom in to see real vinyl albums on the shelves, as well as a wonderful collection of poetry, including volumes from native Idahoan Ezra Pound. I wonder if this is a study library, or a lending library?

A powdery coating of light snow greeted us this morning. This busy bird house is near a public park. Home to house sparrows, I believe, with one peeking out on the left.
I believe this is match is between Timberline and Eagle High Schools last night at Idaho Ice World. The facility has two rinks. My daughter and a couple of friends were on the other rink.
Lots of hazy color this morning, because we're enduring an inversion. Outdoor burning prohibited and a warning has been posted for those who are extra-sensitive to pollution. Boise is prone to these conditions because the city is at the base of a mountain range, which naturally traps air in the valley under certain weather conditions.
Um...the ice isn't melting. I wanted to take a quick walk along the Boise River and indeed, it was quick. One picture and I was back in the car!
