Mostly Mundane: The Main Post Office

The line of cars would stretch for nearly a mile at this location years ago on Tax Day. It used to be the only place you could drop off your returns and get them postmarked on time. Not many people snail mail their returns anymore. If they do need last-minute services, those are offered at the sorting facility/warehouse on Cole Rd. By the way, Tax Day is April 17th this year. 96 days away.

Keepsies in its New Home

This scene of children playing marbles lived for decades in The Grove. It was moved when the Plaza was remodeled. So many kiddos tried to pick those marbles up over the years. “Keepsies,” by Anne Larose, 1985. You can see it at the Boise Senior Center.

Squash Bugs!

Alert. I found about a dozen squash bugs, Anasa tristis, in my pumpkin and zucchini plants. This perennial pest lays eggs on the undersides of leaves, and the babies suck the life out of pumpkins and squash. They'll even send their babies to attack cucumbers. Best way to control? Pick them off and drown them. Scrape eggs from undersides of leaves. Pray!

Art Deco Doors at the Hoff Building

This building is filled with Art Deco details inside and out. The Hoff Building. The Top of the Hoff used to be one of the ritziest places for dinner, drinks and dancing.

Winter-Spring Shopping

That awkward time of year when winter coats and swimsuits are side-by-side in the store. Seen at JC Penney.
