What a discovery! Thankful that road construction forced me to take a detour through the Collister Neighborhood.

Collister Neighborhood
Because of road construction, I took a detour through the Collister Neighborhood in Northwest-ish Boise. Charming. I'll share images over the next couple of days.

Ugly Produce
Boxes and boxes of produce deemed "too ugly to sell." Albertsons at Fairview and McMillan leaves these boxes behind the store (rather than putting them in the dumpster) so folks can use the food for themselves, or for animals, or composting.

Gertie the Galactic Arachnid
A giant, LED-lighted, color-changing spider paraded down the street and into the crowd at the Treefort Main Stage. What an incredible site!

Park Wildlife
Hmm. Albertson Park has become a dumping ground for unwanted pets. There's also a golden pheasant roaming around the park.

Green Stamps
Memories of licking and sticking these for products! Stamps could be traded for all kinds of things. Retailers handed them out beginning in the 1930s - continuing into the '80s in some areas. This sign is at Big City Coffee.

Forsythia Time
This yellow flowering shrub is another harbinger of the changing seasons. There is plenty of local folklore about when the forsythia blooms, it's time to - prune rose bushes, prune fruit trees, treat the lawn for crab grass, etc.

Stories in the Circles
This art piece by Amy Westover tells the stories of the city's Grove Street neighborhood. Hard to believe there used to be a neighborhood here, it's all buildings now.

Condors are perched on top of the Record Exchange. Created by artist Ellen DeAngelis to help raise awareness about projects at the World Center for Birds of Prey (which is right here in Boise).

Early Balloon
The neighborhood dogs let me know that this balloon was near this morning. Hot air missions fly year-round, as long as the winds are calm.
