Bye-Bye Farm

This acreage grew potatoes last year and wheat the year before. Soon, work will start on 'growing' a retail complex.

  1. Oh yes .... don't get me started. Heh!

I work in central Iowa in a growing community near Des Moines. It is actually a bedroom community for Des Moines.

The town is where the community college is located where I work. When I used to live here in the 1980s, the town was about 1/2 the size it is today.

Today this town is expanding to two, large, brand new high schools and is just exploding in every direction.

When you drive out of town to the north or east, the corn and soybean fields have huge For Sale signs all over since the land is all being converted into housing tracts.

Urban sprawl is something we have to live with, I guess, but it does make you think about how much land is being wasted. Huge lawns, one story buildings, large estates for one family .... as I said - don't get me started! Arrghh!

Always enjoy stopping by and seeing your posts. Take care.

  2. We'd better be saving our precious farmland! We let sections of cities deteriorate, then just keep on building further and further out.
