There Goes the Neighborhood

Not exactly a welcome neighbor, this giant wasp condo project became visible after the shedding of the leaves from my neighbor's maple tree. Do the wasps hide inside for the winter? I know someone once told me wasps have a positive role to play in nature....but I never remember what it is.

  3. This makes such a great composition. I love the nests that are revealed this time of year and wonder about the creatures that began life in them, where they are, if they'll return in the spring.

  4. I remember one fall these huge wasp condos were everywhere. Haven't seen one in a while. I'm getting more and more wasps burrowing into the ground and they are truly strange looking. This picture really stood out in the portal. Perfectly framed by the rust colored leaves.
