Ghost Hotel
I can't tell if it was $8.75 per day, or $18.75, or possibly, 75 cents per day, with the fractured "E" and "S" looking like a dollar sign and an "8." You can see this on the side of a building in downtown Boise. There's no hotel there now, and I would venture to guess the Hotel Manitou disappeared in the 50s?? Does anyone know? Now, I would categorize it as a ghost sign.
A great name anyway!
ReplyDeleteI love old signs like this. Better than painting over them I think.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photograph. Beautifully composed. Excellent palette, perfectly matched to the subject. And doesn't it just set your imagination spinning.
ReplyDeleteThere are many of these old buildings around with fading names...they are a wonderful reminder of times past. You've photographed this very well.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I really like all the old ads which were painted on sides of buildings so many years ago!
ReplyDeleteGhost sign or not, it's a great photo and a wall to be kept.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many ghosts live there! I just said this on someones page, but I'm a sucker for a good ghost story - I'd love to explore the inside
ReplyDeleteHere's the lowdown from Kim Day via Facebook -
ReplyDeleteBefore "redevelopment" the Manitou and the Idanha were two places were a lot of seniors lived. In the morning, after a night at the bars, you could hang out with them at the old Bouquet. You could get back on your feet with breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon, and a huge glass of milk) for less than $2.00.
An evocative and nostalgic post and photo!
ReplyDeleteI think it says 75 cents
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sign!
It looks to me like it says "RATES 75." Which is hilarious. And I don't know when this hotel disappeared...it would be interesting to find out.
