Beautiful Duckie

We're so used to seeing mallards at neighborhood ponds that this guy is a real treat: a wood duck. This is the time of year that wood ducks "pair up" because they breed in early spring and raise two nests of ducklings. They nest in the trees, and the ducklings jump/fall to the ground when they're ready to waddle to the water.

  5. I love these ducks, too. Mostly here we have mallards, as well, and then, of course, the troublesome Canada geese.

I didn't know about them nesting in trees, though. Interesting!
