I follow the Oregon Trail Every Day

Follow the Oregon Trail through Boise and end up at....Staples office supply. This Oregon Trail marker is in the parking lot of the store. I actually drive along the Oregon Trail every day to take my daughter to school. As far as I can tell, the route I follow doesn't contain any evidence of the original trail anymore. You can see trail ruts if you head to southeast Boise. The Oregon Trail was one of several paths followed by those who moved out West when it was really the Wild West. I always figure that's why wagon wheels are so preferred as yard art, to acknowledge the Trail.

  1. Lovely marker about the Oregon Trail. There are some places where the trail can still be seen cut deep into rock. I don't remember if it is the Oregon Trail or some other but I saw the photos in National Geographic.

  3. No need to starve, Kris, there is a BBQ chicken and ribs trailer along the way now... :)

  4. That is a grea marker. I didn't know the Oregon trail went through ID. My great great great grandparents took the Oregon trail from Missouri to Ashland, Oregon. Thanks for the photo!

  5. When I was little, I loved dressing up as Laura Ingalls and braiding my hair like her. I always wanted to be a pioneer on the trail. Just a couple of years ago, someone ruined the trail for me by explaining that people go out and redig them every year. Otherwise, weather would wear them away. It makes sense, but it still made me sad. I guess I'd just never thought about it before.
