Gone Fishin' - at the Boise Airport

This is a lighted panel, mural at the Boise Airport - I suppose to promote the sport fishing industry. For those not into fishing, the man standing in the "water" is fly fishing - I hope he catches one of those big salmon! My neighbor across the street has a room in his home dedicated to tying his own flies.

  1. I've never heard of anyone fly fishing here. Is it only for rivers and streams?

  2. Fly fishing is popular around here, too, although I've never tried it.

  3. Ah, a river runs through it.
Not much fly fishing in my neck of the woods. Mostly bubbas in their big old bass catcher motorboats on the lakes, they drop a line and drink some beers.

  4. Hi Hilda - it is really only a stream and river sport. There's quite a science and art behind making the "flies" - which mimic bugs landing on the water, which salmon and other fish love to eat.

  6. Hi Brandon - happy to hear you're coming to Boise! Lots of fly fishing opportunities nearby. I don't think many people fly fish in town, but it's available a short drive away in many places.

  7. me and my husband are moving there in Feb. and he loves to fly fish. Is there pretty much fly fishing year round? and what do people mainly fish for up there?

  8. Hi Sarah - fly fishing year-round would be strictly for the cold-hardy, but I believe it is a long season depending on where in the state, and what kind of river, or stream, or reservoir, for that matter. People here fly fish for trout, salmon and steelhead.

  10. Hi Sarah - I don't know much about it all, so I asked a friend and the advice is to check out http://www.idahoangler.com/ as a starting place.
