Fair Time

We made it to the Western Idaho Fair - the closest thing to a state fair we have here in Idaho. We saw hundreds of animals, home goods entries, one of my neighbors won a special award for her embroidery, we played games, rode carnival rides, had fabulous icy cold lemonade, and then some churros. Great weather, highs in the 80s instead of our usual 100s this time of year.

Thank you for your comment on ArradonDP, I've added some explanations about this game...

  3. What about shiny new tractors worth more than a house Diva? They're one of my favourite attractions.

  4. Hi Wayne - no shiny new tractors on display at our fair. Lots of hot tubs, though, that cost big bucks. Our fairgrounds aren't even in an agricultural area anymore - all surrounded by city now.

  5. I'm practically speechless. Is there another fair in Idaho? Where do all the 4H kids go with their prize calves and pigs and horses?
I've only driven through Boise once and it was quite a while ago but it felt very rural to me.
The things I learn on CDP, it's amazing.
The PNE is on in Vancouver right now. I don't go any more but I know for the first week the barns are full of 4Hers and their animals. Years ago when I was growing up the PNE was a full blown agricultural fair with dedicated buildings for swine, poultry, horses etc. It's really scaled back now. They don't have shiny new tractors either.

  6. Hi Wayne - well, there were plenty of pigs, goats, pigeons, sheep, horses - even huge draft horses, chickens, geese, pheasants, cows - all there for 4-h kids and show categories for adults, too. There are three big fairs in Idaho - one North and another East. But the Boise one is the biggest commercial fair focusing on regular consumer goods in the booths and exhibits.
