Standing With Bowe

I was in the Sun Valley area recently, and the town of Hailey is decorated to show support for Bowe Bergdahl, America's last prisoner of war. Rolling Stone magazine told his story earlier this month. Bowe has been held by the Taliban for three years, as of this week. Click here for the Rolling Stone article.

Pronghorn

They're not truly an antelope, although some people call them 'pronghorn antelope.' And recently, acquaintances from the East Coast visited and thought they were deer. They are about the same size.

Shepherd's Hut

I toured a sheep-grazing operation yesterday, and yes, a sheep herder really lives in this hut to keep an eye on the flock.

Killdeer Alarm

We know these well in the Boise area. They're nesting, and by nesting, I mean laying a couple of eggs in a patch of gravel in the ground. You do know you're close to a nest when they sound the alarm.

Learning to Drive

We're seeing a lot of these cars on the road. Driver's education isn't available during the school year, so teens take lessons in the summer. Be patient.

Choo-Choo

Trains do move through Boise, but only carrying cargo. No passenger trains. Here at Boise Daily Photo, the most common questions I field from blog visitors in other countries are about the passenger train system. They're planning a U.S. visit and want to hop on a train to see Boise ;)

Old-fashioned fun at an end-of-school-year party at Heroes Park.

Lander Street Creek

That may not really be the name, but it's on Lander Street across from the sewage treatment plant. That sounds ugly, but it's a beautiful area along the Boise River.

Quinn's Pond

Right alongside the Boise River and available for swimming, fishing, paddling, canoeing, floating....

Message for Boise River Floaters

Actually, two messages. Follow the signs for safety and...don't float yet. The water is still too high and the snags haven't been cleared.
