Crumpled Bicycle

A bicyclist was hit on McMillan Road this morning. The man who was riding is hospitalized. This is a tough stretch of road for anyone not in a car. See how there is no shoulder beyond the white line? Kids have to walk and bike this road before and after school, too.

QR Code Bumper Sticker

Good idea? I didn't "read" it - I hope it's really just advertising and not a dastardly message of some sort :)

Guest Post: M-m-m-moon

I've been dragging my daughter aound for almost four years on this photo-a-day adventure. She likes to take pictures, too. Here's her shot of the moon this week - which collected all kinds of colors I don't remember seeing when she had the camera.

Beautiful Morning

Good morning from the City of Trees. This photo is from our recent round of snow. We have a "chance" or more in a couple of days.

Horses at Sunset

A horse and a pony, if you look closely. Happy Tuesday-Monday to all!

Great Backyard Bird Count

Today is the final day. Spend at least 15 minutes counting birds in your yard, park, along a river, in town, and submit the numbers for this National Audubon Society citizen science project. Click here for details. I mostly counted American robins yesterday, including the one above, which has a condition called leucism - meaning loss of pigment, which is why it's dotted with white spots.

The Holiday Hotel

I remember this seeming like a nice hotel when I was a kiddo. Pretty swimming pool our front, too. It looks entirely different now, and not just because of the late-season Christmas lights still displayed out front.

Eastman Parking Garage

A Downtown Boise parking option. Park at the top and you have a good angle on the peregrine falcon nesting box on a nearby building.

Snow Trouble

Someone should invent non-stick road signs. A shot after yesterday's small storm.

Ballet Idaho performed Circus, Romeo and Juliet, and Firebird this weekend. This is from Circus.

Boise Hole Check-up

Yep. It's still there in the middle of Downtown Boise. Although...that could change this year? The concrete, weeds, graffiti and rebar are blocked from public view at street level.

Rescue Dogs

One of dozens of dogs the Idaho Humane Society is offering for adoption. Almost 70 chihuahua-mixes came to Idaho from an overwhelmed shelter in California. It's not common for IHS to offer small breeds. They usually take in large dogs - and don't overlook them if interested in a pet. IHS dogs, small and large, are ready for visiting at the new Petsmart by the mall, or at the shelter.

For Sale Sign is Up

I featured an old farm building yesterday with the observation that these relics keep disappearing to make room for development. This one is guaranteed to be disappear soon. A 'for sale' sign has just been posted by a commercial realtor.

Oldie Still Standing

You might think a strong windstorm would take down some of these farm relics in the Boise area, but they're sturdier than that. They're more likely to be taken down by bulldozers clearing the space for housing or businesses.

Early Spring?

That's not what the groundhog said...but signs are everywhere.

Spring Fever

Kiddo in a tree is a sure sign.

Kitchen Relic

A Kelvinator vintage stove in the basement of a grange hall-turned-into-a-dance studio/rental hall. Yep, still works.

Idaho's First Shopping Center

Vista Village was established in 1949 - and underwent a makeover not too long ago. There are about two dozen shops, with Lee's Candies probably the most famous. It's just "up the hill" from downtown.

Wigeons, Wigeons, Wigeons - and 1 Duck

Wigeons make constant cute squeaky sounds. I heard this gathering before I saw them in a park pond. Can't believe the ice is gone already.

Missing Winter

Snow from our ONLY Boise snowstorm so far this winter - last month. It's been a strange season. I guess it still could still snow this month.
