Greyhound

The Greyhound Bus Depot in downtown Boise. I've fielded queries here on Boise Daily Photo from foreigners planning a trip to this region and they always ask about train schedules. I direct them to this bus option, since we have no passenger train service.

Table Rock Up Close

I've featured this landscape from afar several times. We took a drive to get close last weekend. I admit I hadn't been up there in years. I don't remember there being so much graffiti. Too bad.

Famous Mermaid - Do You Know Where?

I'm guessing many Boiseans will immediately know where this siren can be seen. Do you know?

A glimpse of the grasses greening up along the Boise Front. They'll fade to the color of straw when temperatures warm up.

April Snow Showers Bring...?

I noticed that a lot of stores are already offering garden tenders. Don't be tempted unless you have a system to protect those plants for a few more weeks. We all get itchin' to plant this time of year, but look at the trees - the non-flowery ones are just starting to bud out...and then there're the mountains. Big clue: If you still see snow, it's too early for tenders.

St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center

One of the major hospitals in Boise. It sure has grown over the years. I don't have a lens or perspective wide enough to capture the whole campus.

Tree Art Heart

See this in front of the Shangri La Tea Room along Federal Way. There is a plaque with an explanation...but I want to leave it to your imagination.

Bird Nest Fiasco

I was cleaning up the foundation plantings, which includes cutting the clematis vines. I checked first to see if any house finches had moved in. I found an unused nest and figured that if finches had planned on using it, they would harass me to let me know as I worked in the area. Two hours and not a peep. I removed the nest to an entryway table and cut the base of the vines...and then the birds showed up and started yelling at me.

They had obviously worked hard on this nest. It was sturdier than the finch nests I've found in previous years. I felt bad. So I decided to put it back in the same area and wire it to the trellis. Do you think they'll notice?

They haven't said anything yet....

Irrigation Season is Set to Begin

There's a rumor that the irrigation water is being turned on today. The sign above is an important note because most of our subdivisions use a pressurized irrigation system, and if the valves are open when the water gushes through, it can create quite an unexpected show...and flooding.

Field of Fire

It is that time of year when folks use fire to fight weeds, but this was not that kind of fire - unless it escaped from one of those projects. Firefighters brought this one under control.

The River Runs High

There is some minor flooding this week along the Boise River. These trees don't usually stand in water. This is a controlled flood. Water is being released from the reservoir system to make room for spring run-off as the mountain snow melts.

Y, Y, Y

This is the YMCA in Downtown Boise. It's the original location; there's one in West Boise, too. Recently, the YMCA re-branded itself as "The Y," which is what we've always called it anyway :)

Bye-Bye Farm

This acreage grew potatoes last year and wheat the year before. Soon, work will start on 'growing' a retail complex.
