Invincible Youth

These signs are posted at all public park ponds...not that they're heeded :)

Festival of Trees 2010

Our family attended the Festival of Trees over the weekend. Sock monkeys, penguins, and a bra stuffed with pink marshmallows describe some of the sights. I've posted pictures of the entries, which range from trees, to wreaths, to Christmas artworks at the Boise Daily Photos Extras site. Get there by clicking here.

Snowy Backdrop for the Capitol

I was just checking the forecast, and this snowy backdrop may be less dramatic by the end of the week. Rain is in the forecast.

Empty Bowls

An annual fundraiser for the Idaho Foodbank, "Empty Bowls" took place yesterday at the Grove. Folks are invited to hand paint and donate the bowls. Then, people choose the ones they want to buy, and they also receive a bowl of hot soup. That soup had to be really appreciated in yesterday's freezing temperatures.

Speed Limits Obliterated

I guess you could use this as an excuse for speeding, if it were even possible to go beyond the limit on the icy roads.

Icy Fingers

Cold. Brr. I wish I had fur. Low temperatures right around zero degrees, with wind chills blasting into the negative number zone.

Roadside Rules

This is a promo for a ______ company. Can you guess? I plan to post pictures later this morning of lots of white, IF the big snowstorm forecast last night really happened.

New White Coat

Just a little bit for Boise yesterday, although other areas of the state saw a lot more. I think there was just enough to dress up all the yards. More snow expected tonight :)

Grass is Still Green

How fun this time of year...the grass is still green, but there's snow in view every day.

Almost Full Moon

The official full moon is tonight. This is a view of our mountains last night.

Football Frenzy Birds

Orange and blue - the colors of Boise State University Bronco football. Friday was gameday with Fresno State coming to play on the blue turf. (BSU won, 51-0)

Birds of a Feather

Blackbirds like the tallest electrical wires for afternoon perching.

Rolling Up The Fence

I wonder if this means construction is coming to this still-kinda-rural corner soon...

Is This Early Enough For Ya?

Black Friday shopping seems to open earlier and earlier each year. I received a promo in the mail yesterday about a sale that begins at 3 am!

Corn Stalks

I always wonder why a field of corn would be planted and then never harvested. Or, is there some other purpose?

Freeze-Dried by Nature

A couple of hard frosts this past week drained the color out of this zinnia.

Blue Mushrooms

Fungi attached to the bottom of a tomato cage getting a makeover. I think this is almost "Bronco blue."

Purple and Lost...Again

A few days ago, I posted Purple and Lost featuring a mitten. Today, a lost purple thing is a bicycle. (there is a number to call to claim this item, let me know if you need it)

A View Without Mountains

This is a view from Boise looking southeast from the top of Bronco Stadium. No mountains in view in this direction. Once you get beyond the trees, it's a high-desert environment.

This Bird Winters in Boise

Oregon juncos, and other dark-eyed juncos, spend their summers in the woodlands of Canada, and migrate to the states for the winter. They're a type of sparrow, and when we see them in abundance, it's a confirmation that winter is on the way.

Another fun food sign seen recently.

Anyone Have Extra Elk Meat?

Have you ever tasted an elk steak? I have, and it was pretty good. But I'm also not a hunter, so my taste happened because of a generous friend.

BSU Bronco Practice

A spy shot on BSU football practice from high above the blue turf at Bronco Stadium. Boise is Bronco crazy this year!

Car Chandelier

At least I think that's a chandelier :)

Sunny Foggy Cemetery

Sunny fog too bright for my eyes...and my camera :)

Purple and Lost

It's that time of year when the kiddos start to "misplace" mittens and gloves :) Happy weekend to you!

Tree Island

A clump of trees rising above a fog bank. Our cooler mornings bring foggy zones around the valley.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Old Railroad Bridge

This is the old railroad bridge over the Boise River. Now, it's a biking and hiking bridge.

Textured clouds in our sunset last night.

Cuddling Jack-O-Lanterns

We had fun handing out candy and trick-or-treating the neighborhood last night. 52 kiddos came to the door.
