Green Cheesy Moon

I'm sure the purple sunrise sky is playing tricks on my eyes - but this moon looks a little green to me. The wheels in the foreground are part of an irrigation system.

Air Quality

In Boise, we have to pay to have our cars tested every year to make sure they don't emit too much air pollution. But as you can see, industrial trucks on the road don't have to meet those standards. Every time the cement truck in front of the yellow car shifted gears, the cloud of black smoke obscured the view of our beautiful mountains.

Music in the Park

One of the musical "instruments" available for anyone to experiment with in Settler's Park - which is in our neighboring town, Meridian.

Planter Full of Eggs

One of the resident Canada Geese at the Blue Cross of Idaho campus. This gal laid her eggs in the flower planter. Three eggs counted so far. Thanks to our friend Ben for snapping this picture.

Downtown Art

This piece of public art is found in front of Hotel 43, downtown Boise. It's lit up with blue at night. I could tell you the interpretation, but that spoils the fun.

Tree Eater

A tree-eater spotted in the City of Trees - Boise's nickname. This machine spits out bark. A neighbor was having trees trimmed, and the branches are mulched. Some people keep the mulch for garden beds. This time of year is prime for tree-trimming. The super hard freezes are gone, and when the leaves are gone, it's easier to see what needs to be cut.

Spring Babies

These lambs are Boise residents at a small farm within the city limits. These are twins. We counted 13 lambs are our friend's house - I think he said there were 15, so one must have been hiding. I know another one is being nursed in a backyard because it has a broken leg. And then there's this poor guy below. His legs didn't come out first so they're damaged. He can't really stand on his front legs. But he seems to be figuring out how to get along because he's growing and sturdy.

Chain Letters - Sign of the Times in a Bad Economy

This is the third one I've seen in the past couple of weeks - a chain letter. It's funny how this is supposed to be "legit" because Oprah's name is on it. It also states that it is not a chain letter...then it says to send $1 to the people listed, and then add your name and send the letter to your friends so you can get money and the lifestyle you "deserve." Exactly the definition of a chain letter? Do you ever participate in chain letters? This one is joining the others in the recycle bin.

Hot New Make-Up Trend?

Pay a pretty penny for the "latest" make-up counter offering. It was explained to me that the mascara wand vibrating action makes the product go on thicker. I did not shell out $34 to see if that was true.

Frosty Moon

My husband took this shot while headed to work when the moon was full recently - the "Worm Moon" it's called in March.

Doritos for Dinner

A man was throwing Doritos chips out his car window in a parking lot - dinner for the gulls.

Can't Phone Home

At least, you can't phone home the old-fashioned way so easily. Pay phones have disappeared as cell phones have become so common. How may cell phones do you have in your family?

Bowlers' Assist

I had never seen one of these before - a rack to help small bowlers. Besides helping when they get tired of trying to throw the ball, it helps them aim. Plus, the lanes are set up with "bumpers," so there are no gutter balls.

Welcome to the Big Chair

One road, two giant chairs. On Chinden Boulevard, the first chair always sits in the parking lot of an antiques store. They take it in at night. The one below is on a rooftop. It is lighted at night. I'm Twittering now, see the disconnected stream of thoughts by scrolling down on the right, or follow here.

Backhoe in Traffic

What a bummer to be driving such a hot and fast car and get stuck behind a backhoe. I believe it was Babooshka over at Ramsey Daily Photo who once ranted about the frustrations of getting stuck behind a tractor on a highway. A backhoe is no better for that experience. I'm Twittering now, see the disconnected stream of thoughts by scrolling down on the right, or follow here.

Garage Cleaning Day

A whole family was pitching in to clean out the garage. I imagine they pushed this back in. Anyone recognize what it was, or what it could be? I told my husband I was glad he didn't bring home things like that to store in the garage.

Police Action in the Parking Lot

Two Boise Police officers were watching a man in his truck in the grocery store parking lot.

The TK Bar

I've always thought this was our local "biker bar," the TK Bar in southeast Boise. I know it's promoted more as a "working people's bar." And, just a few bikes the day I drove by. No, I've never been inside, but I like the way the bar looks like a house. Notice the wagon wheel decoration. Those who have followed this blog for a while know that I love to see these as yard decorations.

The Edge of the Idaho Batholith

A view across housing-land to the Boise Front. Just over those mountains is the edge of the Idaho Batholith. It's really a huge mass of granite and if I remember right, it's key to the state's nickname of "Gem State." That granite was on top of a moving mass of hot earth and there were cracks that allowed gases and liquids to run through the granite. Those became gold, silver, copper - and - jasper, jade, opals, tourmaline, zircon, and topaz. Those are some of Idaho's gems, and they're mainly found in the batholith - which stretches through most of the central part of the state.

Lava Rock

This is lava rock from the Craters of the Moon National Monument. This is used as a landscape decoration near the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Not everyone has this in their yard because you can't just pick up rocks in the Monument and take them home. The rock is smooth to the touch. My daughter thought it could be a dinosaur bone when she saw it.

Sonic Drive-In and Drive-Through

Car-hops on skates deliver the order if you drive-in, or you can use the drive-through. The colors and logo look a lot like a In-N-Out Burger, but the product is not the same. On the plus side, Sonic serves up good slushies with real fruit, and they're half price from 2 to 4 pm.

A Daylight Savings Positive

A positive in the "hour lost" with the Daylight Savings switch early Sunday morning. I get to see the sunrise when driving my daughter to school.

Snow Surprise Again

The day started out cold, but sunny. Look at the BDP Garden Shot on the right to see...then, we got some serious snow. The sunny spots melted by late day.

Free for the Taking

This is a common sight on a nice weather day. A freebie for the taking. I don't know exactly what this is, an industrial-looking shelf of some sort. Someone did scoop it up - tossed it into the back of a truck.

Fresh Coat of Snow

A new coat of white on the mountains above town. I hear a couple of feet of new snow fell, and it will be a busy ski weekend.

March Snow

Rain, thunderstorms, hail and snow - it's March in Boise.

Trophy Fish?

Fish swimming "downstream" along a brick wall, downtown Boise. You have to look up when visiting the Berryhill and Co. restaurant to see them. And, I just about missed them because I was distracted by the specials board and I was hungry.

Ghost Hotel

I can't tell if it was $8.75 per day, or $18.75, or possibly, 75 cents per day, with the fractured "E" and "S" looking like a dollar sign and an "8." You can see this on the side of a building in downtown Boise. There's no hotel there now, and I would venture to guess the Hotel Manitou disappeared in the 50s?? Does anyone know? Now, I would categorize it as a ghost sign.

Waiting for the Train

These tracks run near Federal Way in East Boise. We don't have passenger trains in Boise, or any that stop in Boise (Amtrak). These tracks feature freight trains - and not that often.

Flying into Boise

Approaching Boise on our flight from Las Vegas Sunday. Kind of gives an idea of how the mountains we see from our town view go on and on beyond our sight. It was 45 degrees when we landed. It was about 65 degrees in Las Vegas. I'm posting pictures of the Las Vegas trip on the "on the road blog" - scroll down on the right to get the link.
