Potato Chip Show

The Chippery is a potato chip making machine you can watch in action at Albertsons. Potatoes are put in the chute on the right - they're sliced and fried and they come out as chips on the left, where they're twirled in a bowl with flavoring. The best part is that when the Chippery is making the goods, there are lots of samples. Salt and vinegar, BBQ, sea salt, and sweet potato salted chips were the offerings yesterday. I'm always tempted because they're good, but they're pricey: $3.99 for 6 ounces. This kind of live action frying reminds me of the french fry vending machine that used to be at the Boise Airport. I wish I had a picture of it because it's been gone for a long time. The fries were just awful with grease that was not so fresh - but it was quite the novelty.

  1. Nice shot, BD. But now I really want potato chips. They look so big and crisp and fresh! The employee looks content with her work...no chip on her shoulder.

  3. "they're pricey"

I'm a sucker for good potato chips! Glad I'm not there -- I'd probably pay it :)

I bet the worker (shown above) does her best work when she's under pressure, You know, when the chips are down.

  5. I've never had the opportunity to indulge in chips made from a chipper! You're very fortunate! I can imagine they get a lot of visitors.

  6. are they worth paying the premium for? I have never had freshly made chips like that - sounds like it could be an occasional treat.

  7. I remember touring the Clover Club Potato factory (near BSU?) back in the late 70's for our 5th grade school field trip (Cole School!!!). We got to watch them make fresh potato chips. What a fun field trip that was.
