Another Look at the Basque District

This is a mural in the Basque District. I spent some time in the area this week, I hadn't really done that before. There's a museum and several restaurants. By the way, the top "photo request" here at Boise Daily Photo is for pictures from this area of town.

  1. Very charming mural. I love all the red shades in it — great reflection of the red brick wall too.

  2. Neat painting!! It's probably good to get out and see things you haven't visited before.

  3. Le Pays Basque is a beautiful French area! The coast is wonderful with Biarritz, Saint Jean de Luz...and the countryside is so nice, green and tidy with beautiful houses. And, icing on the cake, food is just...wow! I think the cheese you've been talking about is ewe's cheese (eaten with cherry jam, quite srtange isn't it?)

  4. I never would have guessed that Boise had a Basque district. They’re a fascinating people, apparently they were the ones to teach the Scandinavians how to hunt whales and salt cod!

  5. Hi Kris - yep, quite a significant Basque population in Southern Idaho. The Boise mayor is Basque.
